Limits are set per organization and applied separately per model class (you can use different models up to their respective limits simultaneously). The Messages API uses RPM + input-tokens-per-minute (ITPM) + output-tokens-per-minute (OTPM), not a single combined TPM. Numbers below are the flagship Claude Opus 4.x figures; the Opus rate limit is a TOTAL limit across combined traffic of Opus 4.8/4.7/4.6/4.5/4.1/4. For most models only uncached input tokens count toward ITPM (cache_read_input_tokens do NOT count, except Claude Haiku 3.5). Token-bucket algorithm (continuous replenishment). 429 errors return a retry-after header. Tier advancement is automatic on reaching a cumulative credit-purchase threshold: Tier 1 = $5, Tier 2 = $40, Tier 3 = $200, Tier 4 = $400; monthly spend ceilings are $500 / $500 / $1,000 / $200,000 respectively. Higher/custom (Enterprise) and Priority Tier limits via contacting sales. No requests-per-day (RPD) limits are published. Message Batches API has its own shared limits (per tier: RPM 50/1,000/2,000/4,000; processing-queue cap 100,000/200,000/300,000/500,000; max 100,000 batch requests per batch).

API parameter deprecations
Dates apply to Anthropic-operated platforms (Claude API, Claude Platform on AWS, Microsoft Foundry). Partner-operated platforms (Amazon Bedrock, Vertex AI) set their own retirement schedules. Lifecycle terms: Active = fully supported and recommended; Legacy = no longer updated, may be deprecated later; Deprecated = still functional but not recommended, has a retirement date; Retired = no longer available, requests fail. Anthropic gives at least 60 days notice before retiring publicly released models. "Not sooner than" retirement dates are tentative. Note: Claude Mythos Preview (claude-mythos-preview) will be retired June 30, 2026; migrate to Claude Mythos 5 (claude-mythos-5). Separately, request parameters temperature, top_p, and top_k are deprecated on Claude Opus 4.7 and later (incl. 4.8): a non-default value returns a 400 error; omit them and use prompting instead.
